El Lagarto de Oro is an authentic Yucatecan cantina, bar and restaurant located on the corner of Calle 50 and Calle 55, close to Parque de La Mejorada in Merida. Open since 2021, it brings together traditional Yucatecan food, Mexican drinks and a lively cantina atmosphere.

The menu covers plenty of local favourites, from tacos, panuchos and salbutes to tostadas, kibis, poc chuc and Mexican street style corn. There are also seafood snacks such as ceviche and aguachile, along with sharing dishes that are ideal for the table. Some of the traditional dishes are given a contemporary twist, including the street corn served with papadzul sauce and quesillo.

There is a good selection of cocktails, national beers and craft beers, with complimentary botanas served alongside drinks. The lively atmosphere is a big part of the experience, with colourful decor, varied music and live music every night.
